BuildCalc

About BuildCalc

Free construction calculators for homeowners, DIYers, and contractors.

What BuildCalc is

BuildCalc is a collection of construction and home improvement calculators designed to give you accurate material estimates without making you sign up for anything or sit through a sales pitch. Every tool runs directly in your browser - your measurements never leave your device.

The site covers the calculations that come up most often on real projects: concrete slabs and footings, lumber quantities, paint coverage, flooring square footage, drywall takeoffs, tile counts, deck boards, fence materials, stair geometry, and more. Fifteen tools in total, with both imperial and metric unit support.

Who it's built for

The typical BuildCalc user is planning a weekend DIY project and wants a quick sanity check before heading to the hardware store. But the tools are just as useful for contractors and tradespeople who want a fast cross-check during estimating.

Results include material quantities, bag or box counts, and optional cost estimates. The numbers are designed to match what you'd actually buy at a supplier - not theoretical minimums that ignore waste and rounding.

How the site is funded

BuildCalc is free to use and always will be. The site is funded by Google AdSense display advertising shown on tool pages, and by links to products on Amazon and at retailers like Home Depot and Lowe's. These are standard affiliate links - we earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you.

We do not sell data, run email lists, or offer paid subscriptions. The calculators themselves have no paywalls and no usage limits.

Accuracy and limitations

Every calculator on BuildCalc uses standard industry formulas and typical material densities and coverage rates. Results include common waste factors, but actual material needs vary with your specific project, installation method, and material supplier.

Always verify quantities with your local supplier before ordering, and confirm that your project meets local building codes. Material specs - bag coverage, sheet size, paint spread rate - can differ between manufacturers and regions.
