How to plan your space

  1. Choose a starting template or close the modal to begin with a blank room. Set the room dimensions in the Floor Settings panel (🎨 button).

  2. Click any furniture item in the left panel to place it at the room center. Drag items to reposition them. Use the Rotate button or press R to spin an item 90°.

  3. Switch to Draw Shape mode to trace a custom room outline — click to place each corner, then click the first dot or press Finish to close the polygon.

  4. Add more floors with the + Room / + Yard / + Balcony buttons. Each floor has its own palette, wall color, and floor material.

  5. Toggle the 3D view to see your layout in perspective. Use the Scale Person toggle to gauge real-world proportions.

  6. Click Export PNG to save a snapshot, or Copy Link to share your exact layout via URL.

Common uses

  • Planning furniture arrangement before moving or redecorating a bedroom, living room, or home office
  • Mapping out an outdoor patio or yard with seating, a grill, and a fire pit to optimize flow
  • Visualizing a balcony layout to fit bistro furniture, planters, and storage without overcrowding
  • Presenting a room redesign concept to family members using the shareable link

Frequently asked questions

Can I draw a non-rectangular room shape?
Yes. Click the Draw Shape button in the toolbar, then click each corner of your room on the canvas. Click the first vertex (highlighted in orange) or press Finish once you have at least 3 points. The room outline updates instantly.
How do I save my layout and come back later?
Click Copy Link at the bottom of the planner. The entire layout — rooms, furniture, floor materials — is encoded in the URL. Paste it into your browser later or share it with anyone.
Why does the furniture palette change when I switch floors?
Each floor has a space type: Room, Yard, or Balcony. The palette only shows items suitable for that type — indoor furniture for rooms, outdoor items for yards, and compact pieces for balconies. Change the space type in the Floor Settings panel.
How accurate are the furniture dimensions?
Dimensions are based on common US standard sizes — a queen bed is 60″ × 80″, a sofa is 90″ × 36″, and so on. They are close enough for layout planning but may differ from your actual furniture. Check the item tooltip for exact dimensions.
Can I plan multiple rooms or floors?
Yes. Use the + Room, + Yard, or + Balcony buttons to add floors. Each floor is independent with its own shape, items, and materials. In 3D view, switch between Active Floor and All Floors to see them stacked.
Does the tool work on mobile?
Yes. The furniture palette appears as a horizontal scroll row below the canvas on small screens. Touch-based drag and drop is supported. For the best experience with Draw mode, use a stylus or larger tablet.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting door swing clearance — a standard door needs at least 36 inches of clear arc in front of it. Use the Doors & Windows feature to visualize this.
  • Placing furniture too close to walls — allow 18–24 inches of clearance around beds and seating so drawers and doors can open fully.
  • Not checking the 3D view — items that look fine in the top-down layout may block windows or feel cramped in the actual 3D perspective.
