How to calculate wallpaper rolls for a room

  1. Measure each wall's width and height, and enter the room's total perimeter or individual walls.

  2. Enter the roll dimensions from the product label — width in inches and length in feet per roll.

  3. Set the pattern repeat distance if the wallpaper has a repeating design. More repeat means more waste.

  4. The calculator shows usable drops per roll, total drops needed, and rounds up to full rolls — always buy that rounded-up count.

Common uses

  • Hanging wallpaper in a bedroom, dining room, or entryway
  • Covering an accent wall with patterned wallpaper
  • Estimating peel-and-stick wallpaper for a rental-friendly update

Frequently asked questions

How many rolls of wallpaper do I need for a 12×12 room?
A 12×12 room with 8-foot ceilings and one door takes about 8–10 single rolls, depending on the roll size and pattern repeat. Using the calculator with your specific roll dimensions gives a more accurate count.
What is pattern repeat and how does it affect the quantity?
Pattern repeat is the vertical distance before the design repeats. With a 24-inch repeat, you may waste up to 23 inches per strip to align the pattern. More repeat always means more rolls.
Should I buy extra rolls?
Buy at least one extra roll from the same batch number (dye lot). Rolls from different batches may have visible color differences that appear after hanging.
